Delphi Launches Brand-New Nitrogen Oxide Sensor Range Covering 70 Million Vehicles in Europe
Delphi has announced the addition of nitrogen oxide (NOx) sensors to its parts catalogue. These aftermarket components measure the amount of nitrogen oxide in exhaust gases. NOx is a greenhouse gas (GHG), so the sensors help monitor pollution levels and ensure compliance with current and future emission regulations.
The 36 new parts will be available in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. In Europe, the sensors will fit with over 70 million vehicles. The different sensors will work on passenger car brands like Mercedes-Benz, Peugeot, Opel, Skoda, BMW, Renault, and Volkswagen. The range also includes sensors for commercial vehicles, including heavy-vehicle brands like DAF, MAN, and Scania.
Juan Thomaz, Vice President and General Manager Aftermarket in the EMEA region, explains the importance of adding these components to Delphi's portfolio. "As we continuously look to evolve and enrich our sensors portfolio, specially taking into account emissions regulations on modern vehicles, NOx sensors are a key product that fits perfectly into our portfolio.”
NOx Sensor Standards
As a crucial component in emissions regulation, nitrogen oxide sensors use electrochemical principles to measure the amount of NOx in the exhaust. These sensors provide measurement data to the vehicle's central electronic control unit (ECU), which can then adjust the fuel-air mixture and other parameters to increase efficiency and reduce emissions. The NOx data collection, monitoring and adjustments are important elements in ensuring vehicle compliance with emissions regulations.
Delphi’s NOx sensors undergo extensive testing and meet ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 standards. The parts are developed according to original equipment protocols and tested both in controlled environments and in the field to verify full functionality and quality.
The NOx products join other parts of Delphi's sensor portfolio. The company already offers an antilock braking system (ABS), diesel particulate filter (DPF), exhaust gas temperature (EGTS), mass airflow (MAF), manifold absolute pressure (MAP), camshaft and crankshaft position sensors, and more. Delphi’s portfolio gives it one of the widest range for many sensor types in Europe.
Diagnostic Tools and Online Instructional Content
Delphi aligns its parts offerings, including sensors, with its diagnostic tools and online instructional programs. For instance, the BlueTech diagnostic tool has 3,500 NOx sensor functions, covering most popular European brands. Delphi’s online training program, the Delphi Academy, hosts a series of videos and content providing step-by-step instructions and visuals for NOx sensor replacement.
Juan Thomaz continues, “Bringing these NOx sensors to market, and ensuring we provide a full solution including training and diagnostic support, enables us to deliver a comprehensive program to the workshops as they service the vehicles of today, and prepare to service the vehicles of tomorrow."
