Resource Highlights
A vehicle’s diesel particulate filter (DPF) is designed to capture and store soot created by a diesel engine, which is why they are sometimes called soot traps.
In this Masters of Motion video our Delphi expert shares how to manually clean the DPF filter if it is clogged. Discover all this:
• Why DPF filters get blocked
• Checking if a DPF filter needs cleaning
• How to manually clean the filter
Do all diesel vehicles have a DPF filter?
Since 2009, it has been a legal requirement for all diesel vehicles to be fitted with a DPF filter in the UK.
Why does the DPF filter need cleaning manually?
The DPF filter removes soot using passive regeneration, but soot can still build up. This leads to the DPF filter needing a manual clean.
How long does it take to manually clean the DPF?
The whole process of manually cleaning a DPF filter can take as little as 20 minutes from start to finish.
