In this How To video we’re looking at how to fill a vehicle’s AdBlue tank and clear any system faults.

If a vehicle arrives in the workshop showing an AdBlue warning light, we need to know how to refill the vehicle and clear the warning.

It’s a fairly simple process that needs a Delphi BlueTech diagnostic tool.

In this video we’ll show you:

• The process for refilling with AdBlue
• What to do with the vehicle to ensure the task is completed correctly, and any warning lights extinguish.

What is AdBlue, and why does a vehicle need it?

AdBlue is an additive composed of distilled water and urea. It’s specifically used in exhaust systems to reduce various Oxides of Nitrogen which can be harmful.  It can also be called Exhaust fluid.

How much AdBlue does a vehicle need?

It all depends on the make and model of the vehicle. For example the Urea tank on a MK4 Skoda Octavia is 12 liters. Be sure to check the manufacturer’s guidelines or the vehicle handbook to be sure.

Why does a vehicle still show a warning light, even though AdBlue has been refilled?

Some vehicles require a short driving cycle to reset the ECU and verify that there is plenty of AdBlue present.
