Delphi expert, Ruben, takes you through how to carry out a rear brake pad change in a car with an electric parking brake.
This procedure is different to a manual parking brake, as you need to wind back the motor on the caliper using a diagnostic tool.
Our video will guide you through the procedure, including navigating the diagnostic tool menus and functions.
Why is the procedure for replacing a brake pad in a vehicle with an electric parking brake different?
With a manual brake, it’s the cable tension that applies the braking force – this is usually controlled by pulling a lever. However, with an electric brake, a button sends the signal to an electric motor to apply the brakes. So when replacing the brake pad, this motor needs to be wound back to release it.
How do you retract the parking brake motor?
You’ll need a diagnostic device to complete the procedure. In the video, we use the Delphi BlueTech diagnostic tool.
